  • What are the Day Care opening hours?
Day Care is open 7:30am–6:00pm. Group walks take place during the morning which means that there are limited periods when you can drop your dog off. Preferred drop off times is between 7:30am-8:10am. These are 10 minute slots and they are one per customer. Dogs may be collected at between 3:30pm-5:45pm. We feed between 5:00pm and 5:15pm so try to avoid this time if you can. Dogs staying after 5:00pm need to bring dinner with them so that they are not left out! All visits to the house are by appointment, so please contact at least one day before your booking to find out what drop off and collection slots are available.
  • Can you collect and drop off my dog?
Sadly this is not a service that I am able to offer, as I need to be here in order to accept in dogs that are being brought to the house.
  • How do I book Day Care? What about cancellations?
Dogs are required to book at least two days per month in order to remain on the active list. This can be Day Care or Home Boarding, as you wish. Day Care is a flexible system, so you cannot reserve a space 'every Thursday' for instance. On 20th of every month I send out a list of all the available dates in the next 3 months. The dates can be booked for Day Care or for Short Boarding, which is overnight boarding for 6 days or less. I reserve your dates in the business diary, and they are now subject to the Waggy Days 4 Dogs cancellation policy, which means that dates are subject to a 50% cancellation fee unless I can fill the cancelled dates with another client. Cancellations are covered in full detail in your service agreement.
  • When is the fee paid for my Day Care booking?
Day Care and Short Boarding is paid for monthly, and in advance of services starting, on 1st of the month. Invoices are sent out on 20th of the month prior, and you have until 1st to pay. Bank transfer and cash are accepted.
  • What happens if I cannot pick up my dog as planned from Day Care?
We understand that delays happen, particularly if you are travelling home from an event. Please be assured that as long as you call and let us know the situation, we will take care of your dog until you are safely home. If you miss your agreed collection slot, message me from your car on arrival and I will let come out to you as soon as there is a gap in the handovers. If you care collecting after 6pm there may be an additional charge to pay, we will let you know when you call. If there is space, we can transfer your dog over to Home Boarding if you will not be back before 9pm.
  • Does my dog need to be vaccinated for Day Care?
Yes. Your dog will be in contact with the resident dogs, other family dogs and the dogs that they meet whilst out on walks. For general wellbeing, it is important that your dog should always have its annual vaccinations to protect against infections and disease. It is also a requirement of our Home Boarding and Day Care licence. Titer testing results are accepted for Distemper, Parvovirus and Hepatitis, however there is no test for immunity to Leptospirosis so a vaccination is required. Specifically for our business and our resident pensioner, Parainfluenza (Kennel Cough) is also required annually. You may have to ask your vet for a Kennel Cough vaccination as it is not given automatically. A current vaccination certificate must be shown to us before dropping your dog off for the day, and regular visitors must send an updated certificate each time boosters have been given.
  • Does my dog need to be wormed and treated for flea prevention?
Yes, for the same reasons that vaccinations are important. Your dog will be in contact with our dogs, other family dogs and the dogs that they meet whilst out on walks with us. Regular Day Care customers will need to tell us each month when their dog is given their worm and flea treatments for our records. It is your responsibility to ensure your pet is free of fleas. If fleas are present, we will ask you to come and collect your dog. We will need to charge you for any expense incurred , including the process of removing fleas from our home and vehicle (see full terms & conditions).
  • What will I need to provide for my dog?
Pack all the things that you would supply you were leaving your dog with a friend or neighbour for the day. Key items are: food, treats, a clean bed or blanket, leads and harnesses, a coat, a drying coat, a toy - and anything else to make your dog’s stay comfortable and familiar. We do not walk dogs on extending / retractable leads, so please make sure that you provide a regular lead. Please note that we often have to do some back to basics training with your dog, as our rules and routines may be a little different to yours at home - so please make sure that you pack training reward treats. If your dog is staying after 5pm and is having dinner, special dietary needs are not a problem. We suggest that you provide instructions on what food or medication should be given and when, and talk this through with us at the introductory meeting.
  • Puppies, seniors and un-neutered dogs in Day Care
Puppies over 24 weeks are more than welcome as long as they are reasonably house trained and are undergoing crate training (we understand that puppies go through forgetful stages during development). Puppies require extra attention during their stay and incur an extra fee to cover this. Bookings will be considered on a case by case basis, as although we love puppies, some of our adult guests are less keen. Senior dogs are welcome. We understand that senior dogs can have limitations and special needs and we will do our best to help accommodate your dog in any way possible. We have a senior dog ourselves and are happy to offer separate space to youngsters and seniors where it is needed. Unneutered adults are not always suitable for day care, but will be considered on a case-by-case basis. We have several unneutered boys and girls in our client list, however there are some additional considerations. We are not able to accept un-neutered females whilst in season.
  • What does the Home Boarding fee cover?
Home Boarding is charged per day, and the minimum charge is for 2 days (the day or arrival, and the day of departure). The time that you drop off or collect your dog does not change the price. Dogs can be dropped off (by prior arrangement) between 7:30am and 4:00pm. Dogs can be collected (by prior arrangement) between 7:30am and 7:50pm. Your dog participates in 2 walks per day. If the weather is not suited to a second walk (heat, rain etc.) I may switch this to an alternative enrichment activity which is discussed with you during registration. Every dog is unique, and we can go through suitable options for your dog's entertainment during their stay before you go, taking into account their age and any health needs.
  • How do I book Home Boarding services, and what if I need to cancel?
Please be advised that Home Boarding is only offered to my Day Care guests, and ad hoc Home Boarding is not available. If you wish to book a stay of 7 days or more, please contact me and I will check the booking diary for you. Once confirmed, your space is subject to the Waggy Days 4 Dogs cancellation policy, meaning that there is a 50% charge for any dates that I cannot fill with another client. I will send you a booking confirmation certificate to assure you that your dates are safe until I send out a deposit invoice (a few months before the booking date). The booking diary is open roughly 18 months ahead, although some months are blocked out until we arrange our own time off. You are welcome to reserve dates into next year, but please note that they will be subject to any price rises planned for that year. You will be advised of the new rates before being sent a deposit invoice. Booking and cancellation policies are documented in detail within your service agreement.
  • How do I pay for Home Boarding services?
I will send you a booking confirmation certificate to assure you that your dates are safe until I send out a deposit invoice (a few months before the booking date). On receipt of a 50% deposit invoice, payment is required within 5 days. The 50% balance fee is due before your dog arrives on their first day. BACS and cash are both accepted.
  • Does my dog need to be vaccinated for Home Boarding?
Yes. Your dog will be in contact with the resident dogs, other family dogs and the dogs that they meet whilst out on walks. For general wellbeing, it is important that your dog should always have its annual vaccinations to protect against infections and disease. It is also a requirement of our Home Boarding licence. Specifically for our business and our resident pensioner, Parainfluenza (Kennel Cough) is also required annually. You may have to ask your vet for a Kennel Cough vaccination as it is not given automatically. A current vaccination certificate must be shown to us before dropping your dog off for a trial or an overnight stay.
  • Does my dog need to be wormed and treated for flea prevention?
Yes, for the same reasons that vaccinations are important. Your dog will be in contact with our dogs, other family dogs and the dogs that they meet whilst out on walks with us. It is your responsibility to ensure your pet is free of fleas. Our council licence requires that dogs are treated with a VMD approved product which means that sadly, homeopathic and herbal remedies are not acceptable. If fleas are present, we shall treat your pet and charge you for any expense incurred on your return. In addition to the treatment for your pet, the expenses may also include the process of removing fleas from our home and vehicle.
  • Dogs on medication
We are happy to board dogs on medication. Please ensure that you provide enough medicine for the duration of your dog’s stay (plus a little extra in case you are delayed). If you use a special technique to administer medicine, please discuss this with us in advance of your dog's stay.
  • Puppies, seniors and un-neutered dogs in Home Boarding
Puppies over 26 weeks are more than welcome as long as they are reasonably house trained and are undergoing crate training (we understand that puppies go through forgetful stages during development). Unneutered adults are not always suitable for home boarding, but will be considered on a case-by-case basis. We have several unneutered boys and girls in our client list, however there are some additional considerations. We are not able to accept un-neutered females whilst in season, and in the event that they come into season unexpectedly we will need an emergency contact to come and pick them up while you are away.
  • What will I need to provide for my dog?
Pack all the things that you would supply if you were leaving your dog with a friend or neighbour. Key items are: food, treats, a clean bed and blanket, leads and harnesses, a coat, a drying coat, a toy - and anything else to make your dog’s stay comfortable and familiar. We do not walk dogs on extending / retractable leads, so please make sure that you provide a regular lead. Please note that we often have to do some back to basics training with your dog, as our rules and routines may be a little different to yours at home - so please make sure that you pack training reward treats (small, moist and preferably sugar-free). Special dietary needs are not a problem. There is a freezer available should you wish to bring frozen food or raw meat for your dog's stay. We suggest that you provide instructions on what food or medication should be given and when, and talk this through with us at the introductory meeting or at drop off. We can provide a holiday checklist for your dog to help you. We are happy to purchase or provide anything that you might have forgotten, but please remember to reimburse us when you collect your dog.
  • My dog usually sleeps on my bed - will you allow my dog to do this?
Unfortunately this is not acceptable as there are resident dogs in the house and this is where they sleep, but we can always find an alternative solution that suits your dog. We are happy for a dog to sleep upstairs if it makes them feel more settled - we have a designated room just opposite ours, meaning that guests can sleep just a couple of metres away. It is worth noting that your dog sleeps on your bed because it smells of you, and this will not be the case in our home. They are often just as happy in their own bed with some blankets that smell like their own home. Getting your dog used to sleeping in their own bed over several weeks prior to Home Boarding is always advised, as we want to do all that we can to allow your dog to feel settled and relaxed while you are away.
  • What happens there are difficulties with my dog while I am away, or they are unwell?
We understand that dogs can behave differently when they are away from you and your home, and even the best behaved dogs can have a bad day! We will do everything reasonably practicable to manage any situations that arise. There are some situations however that require extra measures, and in such circumstances we will contact you or your emergency contact to talk about the problem. If your dog becomes unwell whilst you are away, we will contact to discuss your dog’s condition. Your dog will be taken to your veterinary practice for treatment - providing it is local to our location. If your dog’s veterinary practice is too far, we will take them to a local practice of our choice. We will keep you updated on your dog’s progress as often as you require. If we are unable to contact you we will use reasonable judgement about the situation, and talk things through with your emergency contact. We would make decisions in the same way as we would for our own dog, but we can only do this if you have told your vet who we are so, that they will allow us to step in temporarily. Please note that it is your responsibility to settle or reimburse charges for any treatment or veterinary care when you collect your dog. In worst case scenarios, if your dog is stressed or has an illness that can affect the other dogs, we will ask your emergency contact to collect your dog on your behalf. We do not take this decision lightly, so please bear with us while we work through the options available based on your dog's individual needs.
  • What is Short Boarding?
Short Boarding is the term that we use for Home Boarding bookings for 6 days or less. Your dog is treated no differently during a shorter booking, and the same rules apply - but for booking and payment, follow the Day Care process.
  • When can I book Short Boarding?
On 20th of every month I send out a list of all the available dates in the next 3 months. The dates can be booked for Day Care or for Short Boarding. I reserve your dates in the business diary, and they are now subject to the Waggy Days 4 Dogs cancellation policy, which means that dates are subject to a 50% cancellation fee unless I can fill the cancelled dates with another client. Cancellations are covered in full detail in your service agreement.
  • How do I pay for Short Boarding?
As you are already a regular client with Waggy Days 4 Dogs, Short Boarding is invoiced along with your monthly Day Care dates. You do not need to pay a deposit, but any cancellations are subject to a 50% cancellation fee unless I can fill the dates with another client. Invoices are sent out on 20th of the month for next month's bookings. Payment is due by 1st.
